Retrenchment is one of the most difficult and consequential decisions an organisation can face. It affects livelihoods, workplace morale, and public perception. When approached carelessly or without proper planning, it can also expose the organisation to legal risk, reputational harm, and long-lasting internal disruption.
This session is designed to support business leaders, HR professionals, and decision-makers in navigating workforce reductions with the clarity, confidence, and care it demands. Participants will explore their legal obligations under existing labour laws, how to plan and communicate retrenchment responsibly, how to assess viable alternatives before proceeding, and how to support both departing and remaining employees.
Through real-world case studies, practical tools, and guided discussions, this session prepares leaders to navigate difficult transitions with foresight and empathy, while safeguarding the organisation’s integrity.
