THE ECA CONGRATULATES THE NEWLY ELECTED PRIME MINISTER OF THE REPUBLIC OF TRINIDAD AND TOBAGO, THE HONOURABLE KAMLA PERSAD- BISSESSAR SC

[ARANGUEZ, 29 April 2025] – The Employers’ Consultative Association of Trinidad and Tobago (ECA) extends its sincere congratulations to Mrs. Kamla Persad-Bissessar on her election as the ninth Prime Minister of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago (T&T).

Indeed, the incoming administration assumes office at a pivotal moment in our national journey, as T&T continues to navigate both persistent and emerging challenges, with major developmental goals on the horizon in 2030.

Over the past five years, we have endured crisis events, and must now navigate escalating geopolitical tensions, trade disruptions, the impacts of climate change, and digital disruptions that continue to shape our domestic reality. As a developing country, we are not immune to these developments, which, among other things, demand adaptive, resilient, and forward-thinking leadership.

The ECA is also cognizant of harsh realities of crime and violence, which have deeply impacted the fabric of our society and continue to hinder our collective potential. These issues are complex, with no quick fixes, requiring bold leadership, shared responsibility and effective social dialogue at the highest level.

In this regard, the ECA reiterates the importance of strong collaboration between the Government and other stakeholders, including business, labour, and civil society. Now more than ever, a united approach is needed to craft innovative and sustainable solutions that position our country as a model of resilience and progress.

We must remember the strength in our national identity of which our National Anthem reminds us - “Forged from the love of liberty, In the fires of hope and prayer…” with a “boundless faith” and enduring spirit guiding our collective efforts as we move forward together.

The ECA reaffirms its commitment to working with the new Government to foster a stable, enabling environment for business growth, sustainable job creation, the continued pursuit of our development goals, and a new chapter, rooted not just in economic growth, but in shared prosperity and an improved quality of life for all citizens.
