Combatting Workplace Theft

Internal theft is a serious but sometimes overlooked problem for many businesses and the cumulative effect can be substantial enough to render any organisation bankrupt. A confidential survey among US employees in various sectors revealed the following statistics:

Theft of Office Supplies - 52%

Theft of Time - 30%

Theft of Corporate Intelligence - 18%

Theft of Products and Services - 32%

This session will explore how businesses can take the necessary steps to mitigate risk and exposure to workplace theft, in both a physical and virtual environment, to safeguard current and future assets. Participants will also examine what an appropriate business response should look like from an investigatory and disciplinary perspective.

 

Session One: Theft of Physical Property

Topics to be Covered:

  • How to address sabotage of equipment, theft of company property, records, malicious damage to or misuse of company property.
  • How to initiate an investigation if theft is suspected
  • Examining disciplinary action for theft and fraud.

 

Session Two: Theft in a Virtual Environment

Topics to be Covered:

  • How to protect important company data by implementing information security policies.
  • Safeguarding against ransomware and other significant cyber threats.
  • Enforcement of non-disclosure agreements (NDA)
  • Monitoring strategies and technology: data loss prevention software, data encryption software, document control policy, download and upload privileges.
